Industry-Wide Harassment Prevention Training
For decades, the major studios have provided their employees training to prevent harassment, discrimination, and retaliation in the workplace. In recent years, the Producers and the IATSE and Basic Crafts unions agreed to make harassment prevention training mandatory in their collective bargaining agreements.
Utilizing Contract Services to provide the training creates efficiencies and promotes a consistent message throughout the industry. This training meets the standards of California and federal law and ensures safe, reliable work environments for production crews, while reducing the number of incidents to which employers must respond.
Contract Services has developed online training courses to be delivered in 2-hour and 1-hour formats (for individuals with supervisory responsibilities and non-supervisors, respectively) to 40,000 individuals. Based upon negotiated requirements, we anticipate a combined 60,000 hours of training will be completed on a repeating two-year cycle.
The courses are designed with specific scenarios one might encounter in film and television production. These professionally produced videos, which were filmed using union cast and crew, cover various real-world production environments. We worked hard with the major studios to ensure the courses are industry specific and not an off-the-shelf product.
Having these courses online makes completion easy and convenient for Producers and workers, allowing individuals to complete the required training from anywhere. It is also a passport-style training program that is recognized by all of the major studios, which makes it an efficient and non-repetitive process for freelance employees that work for multiple Producers.
Industry-wide Harassment Prevention Training is another example of workers across the industry being trained in an efficient and uniform manner, which relieves the need for each and every signatory employer to spend the time and resources on-production to conduct the training themselves.
